El Brown, Owner of KinderJamTM
Mocha Writer: What is KinderJam?
El: KinderJam is a fun, new, exciting and high-enery Music and Movement program that emphasizes the kinesthetic learning of preschool skills and concepts. Our classes are designed to enrich children ages one to five, and we focus on introducing and reinforcing basic preschool skills in a spirited manner that will capture and hold a little one's attention from beginning to end. It was started in December 2008.
MW: Why did you start it?
El: KinderJam's development was inspired by [my] search for quality and affordable activities that could hold [my] toddler's attention and expose him to useful tools for future academic and social success.
MW: What is your business' mission?
El: KinderJam recognizes that each little one is an individual and that all young children are creative and need to succeed. Therefore, we work to create an environment that allows our little ones to experience success and respects their individual learing styles. KinderJam believes that it is essential to reach children early and instill an enthusiasm for learning in an effort to develop a future of lifelong learners.
MW: What are some things you want to accomplish this year?
El: KinderJam is focusing on expansion this year. In March of this year, we will start [our] second location in Misawa, Japan.
MW: Who and what inspires you?
El: Without question, my family and teaching. My son inspires me to get going and work to make sure he has every opportunity for success. My husband helps keep me going when I'm tired and questioning if I have bitten off more than I can chew. And teaching makes me smile.
MW: What do you love most about having your own business?
El: KinderJam allows me to enjoy both my family and teaching without sacrificing one over the other. I'm able to teach my classes and still enjoy being a stay-at-home mom.
