About this chica
I was born and raised in the small city of Hartwell, GA (aka the town you've never heard of) and received my B.A. in Mass Communication from Georgia College & State University in 2008. While there, I worked at GCSU's award-winning student newspaper, The Colonnade. I also did public and media relations work with the GCSU Women's Resource Center and Art as an Agent for Change (A.A.C.).
Currently, I work as a freelance copywriter for small businesses and individuals. Companies I have worked with include KinderJam, Al-Mahdi Fragrance, LLC and Clumps of Mascara, LLC. Additionally, I am a columnist for Mahogany Butterfly, a contributing editor for L.o.v.e. Magazine and a contributing blogger to The Young Writers' Block. I am also founder and editor-in-chief of a women's lifestyle blog, for colored gurls.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading novels and magazines, spending time with loved ones, reading blogs and forums on the web, networking and shopping for handbags, magazines and nail polish. Also, I am co-founder and co-director of Girls Inspired to Reach high in Life (G.I.R.L.); our purpose is to inspire and empower girls to make the best decisions in their lives and to assist them in becoming smart, successful and self-confident.
Why freelance?
Ever since I can remember, I've loved to read and write, and since the age of 11, I've wanted to be a writer. I read the newspaper every day and every week, I would get a new magazine, usually Seventeen, YM or Teen People, and this began my obsession with magazines.
Long story short, I chose to major in Mass Communication in college and decided to pursue a freelance writing career in 2008. I had applied for several jobs in the media but couldn't seem to find one, which is one reason I chose to pursue freelancing. Additionally, I love that I am able to help people acheive their goals and convey their business messages. I also enjoy writing posts and articles that inform and inspire individuals.
